Verification and AML
A. Why we verify
Verification keeps your account secure, keeps minors out and keeps criminal money off our site.
Online play must be legal under local law where you live for us to accept you, and we follow Canadian rules on age checks, identity checks and anti-money laundering. This means every customer's identity must be verified before any money moves. Verification also protects you: it stops anyone else from opening an account in your name, using your payment methods or taking your winnings.
Verification starts before you deposit for the first time. We check your age and identity, and a location check makes sure you are in a permitted area. For most players this is a one-time step that takes a few minutes, after which the full lobby is open.
B. Ongoing monitoring
Our checks do not stop after verification. We continue to monitor account activity for unusual patterns.
While an account is open, our compliance team and systems keep track of its deposits, bets and withdrawals. Patterns that can lead to extra checks include:
- deposits far larger than your usual activity
- funds paid in and taken out again after only minimal gameplay
- more than one account tied to a single individual, device or payment method
- payments made with methods belonging to someone else
- frequent changes to personal or payment details
If we notice unusual activity, we may ask for new documents or information before handling further transactions. To keep the flow of funds transparent, we pay withdrawals to a method you have already used to deposit, via Interac e-Transfer or MuchBetter.
C. Screening for sanctions and PEPs
Every customer is screened for politically exposed person status and checked against sanctions lists.
Names are compared with Canadian and international sanctions lists when you register and periodically after that. Anyone who appears on these lists cannot hold an account with us, whether new or existing, and any related funds are dealt with as the law requires.
We also screen customers for politically exposed person (PEP) status: anyone who holds or has held a prominent public role, plus their relatives and known close associates. Being a PEP does not stop you from playing. It does lead to enhanced due diligence, which may include questions about where your funds come from and sign-off from a senior manager before the account is activated.
D. Source of funds
If your account activity reaches higher levels, we may ask where the funds you use for play originate.
Your deposits may reach levels that call for extra checks, or your activity may not match what we know about you. In either case, we will request evidence of your source of funds. Acceptable evidence includes:
- recent payslips or an employment contract
- bank statements showing salary or other regular income
- documents showing the sale of a property, a business or investments
- evidence of an inheritance, a pension or a settlement
This information is kept confidential and used solely for compliance, as described in Your Privacy. We may put deposits and withdrawals on hold while we look at the material you provide.
E. When verification cannot be completed
If your details cannot be confirmed, your account stays restricted until the issue is settled.
If a document is absent, hard to read, changed or inconsistent with the details on your account, we will explain what we need. Deposits, play and withdrawals may be blocked until the checks are finished. Accounts are closed if checks fail or if we believe the account is being used for fraud or money laundering. Winnings tied to fraud or prohibited activity are void, and bonus funds from Promotions are removed. Where the law requires, we hold funds and report to the relevant authorities. In some cases, the law may stop us from telling you this has happened.
F. Identity and age checks: the documents we request
Clear images of three types of document cover almost every account.
- Photo identification: a valid passport, provincial driver's licence or provincial ID card that shows your photo, full name, birth date and expiry date.
- Proof of address: one recent document showing your name and home address, such as a utility bill, government letter or bank statement. We accept screenshots of online statements as long as the whole page is visible.
- Payment ownership: Visa, Mastercard or American Express: an image of the card's front side with the middle digits covered. Interac e-Transfer: a screenshot from your bank displaying your name. MuchBetter: a screenshot of your account with your name visible. Flexepin vouchers: the receipt from your purchase.
Add your documents through the Verification section of your account, or email them to mail@burnabycasino.app. Every image must be clear, in colour and uncropped, with the whole document visible. Your age is confirmed from your photo ID and cross-checked with independent data sources. Players under 19 cannot be verified.
G. Record keeping and reporting
As Canadian law requires, we retain verification and transaction records for the necessary period and file reports whenever the law calls for it.
We keep identity documents, screening results and transaction histories in secure storage for the period required by Canadian anti-money laundering rules, even once an account is closed. Only staff who need these records for compliance work can access them.
We must report suspicious transactions, certain large transactions and sanctions list matches to the relevant Canadian authorities. These reports are filed whenever the law requires, and we give full cooperation to lawful law enforcement requests. Your Privacy explains how we handle your data.
